A beautiful story, well crafted in every way. The use of the songs is a particularly special touch! Thank you so much.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! This one was special for me as I wrote it--they both were (this and the follow up, ie Beyond the Ballad). ;-)

Really liked this story and the songs to help them through their ordeal. Good job

Author's Response: Thank you! It became a bit of an obsession for me in researching the songs as well as an outlet for me to use them. ;-)

I loved this story....it had something for everyone....Adam fans, Joe fans, etc. I liked Adam commenting that Joe had the "fastest grin in the West" and Adam realizing that Joe, the man, was still his brother little Joe. The Adam-Joe story about alligators under the bed and Adam's ever present guilt about Joe having to stay and watch him die. "The setting sun touched the world in...nad drew new colors in the sand." It was "exciting" to see Joe start out to try to be "the hero" in rescuing Adam instead of the reverse. In the end, of course, conscience thankfully won out. I've really liked all of your stories.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for providing all the pieces that stood out for you in reading this story! It was certainly an interesting one for me to write and has stuck with me so much I couldn't help but write a follow up story to fill in all the missing scenes, particularly showing Ben's and Hoss's perspectives! (Beyond the Ballad is still a work in progress but hope to post here before too much longer).

Great story freyakendra. Love the way you had Adam and Joe singing to "pass" the time so to speak. Now I can go read Beyond the Ballad, looking forward to reading it.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you like it! And I do promise to TRY to be as quick on the draw as you when it comes to finishing "Beyond the Ballad"! ;-)

The use of traditional songs, interwoven in your story, made it very unique. As I was reading it, I would go on to YouTube so I could hear the songs which made it all the more interesting. By the way, Amazing Grace and Simple gifts are one of my old time favorites. I also enjoyed the interaction between Adam and Joe. Look forward to your next story

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I really enjoyed writing this one. It seemed the music helped me to connect more closely with Adam and Joe, and their relationship. I also found myself traveling back in time in my own life with some of these songs. It was an interesting "journey". My next story will be a companion piece to this one, showing the same events from the perspective of Pa and Hoss. Music will not be involved, but the stories are very tightly connected.

I enjoyed the story and the method used to givr greater mening to the events. Thank you

Author's Response: Thank you! Music certainly helps to build emotional elements in movies and on TV. It was interesting to attempt to bring music to the silence of literature. Finding the songs online helped me in building the story. I'm glad it worked!

a very special story, thank you

Author's Response: Thank you so much! It's special to me as well! The songs are still playing in my head! I even took a long walk alone in the heat today, and replayed Joe's "musical interlude" in the desert! ;-) ('Course, being in Michigan I wasn't in a desert, but it *was* hot!)
