Dan Blocker's Death

I cannot remember how the sudden disappearance of Hoss was handled. In which show was this explained?

It wasn't. The cast didn't feel they could do such a show and they also didn't want to cause Dan's family anymore grief. They just had a short memorial statement on the screen.

They did show pictures of Hoss and Joe in one of the last episodes.

Re: Dan Blocker's Death

Was it stated that Hoss drowned and if so, where? Was Joe around at the time? Or does anyone know? I'm writing a story about Adam coming home and not knowing he was gone and I want to make sure that I get the facts right. Thanks!

Re: Dan Blocker's Death

, Calim.

IF it was stated that Hoss drowned while trying to save a family (sounds familiar but could be fanfic), it would have been in one of the movies.

Welcome to BW.

I believe you're correct, Ellie. It was in one of the movies, years after the TV show. We were not given an explanation on the show itself.

Re: Dan Blocker's Death

Thanks to all of you who replied to my post about how Hoss' death was written into the show. I have been watching the reruns on a local channel and trying to remember the shows after Hoss died. I certainly agree that without Dan Blocker, Bonanza would never have been the success that it was. What a good, clean, fun show it was. A perfect blending of characters. There has been nothing like it since it left the air.
